The 287 mile stretch of US 50 running from Ely to Fernley Nevada passes nine towns, two abandoned mining camps, a few gas pumps and the occasional coyote. We warn all motorists not to drive there unless they are confident of their survival skills.”

This was not a compliment for sure. The reporter said there were no attractions or points of interest along this road. True, Hwy 50 is wide and open but it’s also one of the state’s most scenic and historic corridors. As you travel this famed road, you can almost here the gallop of the horses along the Pony Express Trail, see the wagon trains on the Overland Stagecoach trails and feel the quest for riches while passing through some of the best preserved 19th century miming town in the state. Hwy 50 epitomizes Nevada’s spirit of discovery.

You’ll meet quirky characters, charming towns and hidden treasures that will come back to you over and over. That is, of course, if you indeed make it all the way across.

Usando parole poco lusinghiere il giornalista raccontava di quanti pochi punti di interesse ci fossero lungo i 500 km di questa strada. Ed è vero, la hwy 50 è sicuramente una delle strade più solitarie che abbiamo mai percorso, ma è anche una delle aree più scenografiche e storiche del Nevada.
Mentre si guida è facile immaginarsi di sentire ancora i cavalli galoppare lungo il Pony Express Trail, di vedere le carrozze percorrere l’Overland Stagecoach trail o percepire la febbre della corsa all’oro attraversando le città minerarie del XIX secolo meglio conservate.

La Highway 50 incarna alla perfezione tutto lo spirito di avventura del Nevada. Qui è possibile incontrare personaggi strambi, paesini affascinanti e chicche nascoste difficili da dimenticare. Tutto questo solo se ce la farete a percorrerla interamente.
