It’s not a movie set. Laurel is a town located in Jones County, just north of Hattiesburg in central eastern Mississippi.

Although it may seem like a peaceful and sleepy town, until the end of the 1960s it was one of the strongholds of the Klan and the area have been the scene of racist assaults and murders.
The order to assassinate three civil rights militants in the summer of ’64 was given from Laurel. If you saw Alan Parker’s Mississippi Burning, it’s the story told in the movie.

If you have not seen it, look at it.
